Roosevelt collected skins, probably by trapping small animals.
An old fashioned trap used in Roosevelt's time for catching small rodents.
May 13 1875 Magnolia warblers. Blue yellow back. May 14 1875 5 skins. Warblers very abundant. Wood and tawny thrushes.May 15 1875 Yellow fronted vireo 5 skins,
Roosevelt was clearly "for the birds" as he makes lists of what he sees, including this magnolia warbler.
When he was President, TR put land in conservation that helped protect migratory bird populations.
